Dr. Amy Buck grew up in Northern California where she got her first job working as a veterinary assistant at age 15. This job sparked a passion for animals and for medicine that she carries with her in her career. She moved down South to attend UC San Diego where she received her BS in Physiology and Neuroscience in 2011. Then, she completed her MS in Biological Sciences also from UCSD in 2013 after spending some time conducting genetic research on corn both starting in San Diego and finishing up in New Brunswick, New Jersey.
Moving back west, her next journey was veterinary medicine where her love of animals and love of science blended nicely together. She attended UC Davis where she graduated in 2017. After graduating vet school, she completed a one-year internship in Lexington, Kentucky working with racehorses.
Next, wanted to expand her small animal medicine, she completed another internship at VSH in San Marcos. While there, she rotated through Internal Medicine, Surgery, Emergency medicine, and other specialties. She developed a passion for emergency medicine during this time. She not only loves the pace and types of cases found in an ER clinic, but, most importantly, she loves helping animals when they need us most.
She joined the AUC team in 2020.
In her free time, she gratefully enjoys all that sunny San Diego has to offer. A lifelong athlete, she can often be found at the beach playing beach volleyball, in the water working on her very novel surfing skills, jogging, or doing yoga. Outside of the beach, she spends the rest of her spare time with her dog Truman, with her friends, reading, and working on her baking and cooking skills.
